Escape the System
for Vigour Magazine (September ‘24)
Every editorial shoot is a balancing act between vision and reality. You can plan every detail, but once you're on set, anything can happen—and often does. For this Vigour Magazine story, I collaborated with designer Judith van Vliet to bring a futuristic, urban concept to life. What followed was a reminder that in fashion photography, adaptability isn’t just useful—it’s essential.

A Clear Vision—Until the Weather Had Other Plans
When I first started planning this editorial for Vigour Magazine, I had a very clear vision in mind. Working with the incredible designs of Judith van Vliet, we aimed for something urban, edgy, almost otherworldly. The location we’d picked out had all the right textures and mood: concrete, lines, rawness. It was perfect. And then… it rained. Not a light drizzle, but one of those sudden downpours that turns your whole shoot plan upside down.
Why Flexibility Is the Photographer’s Superpower
This is where flexibility becomes more than just a mindset—it becomes a necessity. Fashion photography looks effortless on the page, but behind the scenes, it requires serious adaptability. I’ve learned that having a solid plan is key, but having a backup plan is what saves the day. Luckily, I knew another spot nearby. It had a completely different energy—more reflective, softer in some ways—but still powerful. And honestly, the images we created there surprised me in the best way.
Embracing the Unexpected Can Lead to Stronger Work
Working with Judith’s designs, which are already so bold and narrative-driven, meant I had to stay present and responsive. The new location offered unexpected contrasts that actually enhanced the garments. Textures interacting with fabric, lines playing off silhouettes. This is the kind of magic that only happens when you're open to shifting gears, not clinging to the original idea just because it was the plan.
Preparation Meets Presence
Planning is everything, but so is letting go. My approach to shoots is rooted in detailed preparation. I scout locations personally, I think through lighting conditions, I collaborate closely with designers and stylists. But I also leave space for the unplanned. I think that’s where authenticity lives, in the ability to adapt without losing the original story you wanted to tell.
Calm in the Chaos: What I Bring to Every Project
At the end of the day, that’s what I bring to every project: vision, flexibility, and a calm, creative presence when things don’t go as expected (because they often don’t). Whether you're a brand owner, a marketing manager, or part of a PR team, you want your visuals to tell a story with impact, even when the conditions aren’t perfect. That’s where I come in.
If you're looking for a photographer who can translate your fashion story into compelling visuals and stay grounded when plans shift, I’d love to connect. Let’s create something intentional, striking, and uniquely you! Rain or shine.
Let’s Create Something Powerful! Together!
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
